With an impressive mid-race move to the lead Sky Hero may have punched his ticket to the Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs later this month.
Sky Hero started his career bet down to the favorite at Churchill Downs in September finishing 4th in a 9 horse field. He ran evenly that day, and was steadied coming into the stretch. Below are his Brisnet past performances.
Keeneland is where the gloves came off and Sky Hero made a bold move that visually put the field away at the half mile pole. The quick turn of foot and even stride down the late along with an even and purposeful gallop out marked him as a horse to watch.
Churchill Downs for start #3 made it a double for the son of Sky Mesa a home-bred for John Oxley. This colt is a family affair. John Oxley owned and raced the sire Sky Mesa and the mare Vision of Beauty. Sky mesa finished his career 3 for 6, but his juvenile campaign saw him go 3 for 3 including the Keeneland Futurity. Injuries delayed his return to the races, coming back in the Dwyer in July of his Sophomore season. Unable to capture the magic he had as a Juvenile he ran 2nd in the Haskell and 6th in the Travers.
Vision of Beauty won 4 of 10 races including her debut for Debby Oxley. The 2nd mare Vue finished her career 3 for 6 with a couple of wins at Churchill Downs.

Sky Hero is a January foal, the tactical speed to get in position early, the quick turn of foot, and the ability to create some open space on the turn should provide a good talent base to develop as a 3 year old.
A. P. Indy, Danzig, and Tom Rolfe in his pedigree give him a good mix of speed and stamina. Sky Mesa had the talent to be a good horse and Pulpit has proven a key ancestor for speed at middle distances. Look for him in the Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs and then to Florida.
