A quick turn of foot, quality bloodlines and visually impressive win at the Big A, has put Frosted as one to watch moving forward in a fall stakes race.
Frosted opened his career at Saratoga losing to runaway winner Bayerd that day. Bayerd had already raced once and opened up going into the stretch. Frosted while running wide, lost ground in the stretch but was able to secure the runner-up spot defeating Todays’ Agenda by 1/2 length for 2nd place while 11 lengths behind the winner.
In his 2nd career start Frosted was coupled in the wagering with First Down. First Down used a brilliant turn of speed that day – stopping the clock in 1:16 and change. Frosted ran behind his stable-mate and closed well down the lane.
In his last race Frosted put it all together, dueling with the 2nd favorite in the race and those 2 opened up several lengths on the field. What was impressive was that after dueling for 6 furlongs, Frosted put Aldrin away and those 2 opened up 8 lengths on the field. The Equibase past performances show improvement through 3 races.
A recent workout out of the maiden win shows Frosted retains on edge for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin who ran Cairo Prince in the Remsen last year off 2 lifetime races.
The pedigree on the sire side is Tapit who does well with 2 year olds and has many winners. Top horses Tonalist and Tapiture competed successfully on the Triple Crown Trail in 2013 along with filly Untapable. With Tapit you get the usual craziness, but so far in 3 races Frosted has not displayed any tendencies to run off in the post parade or be head strong, he galloped evenly in the last race and relaxed until Irad gave him the call.
The female side of the family shows Fast Cookie who was a winner of 9 of 31 starts and ran 3rd in the La Troienne and won the Cotillion Stakes at Philadelphia Park. Overall she banked over 500K in earnings.
The 2nd mare provides more proven racing accolades with Fleet Lady winning 10 of 23 starts and over 600K in earnings. This combination of proven sire, and 2 generations of racing on the female side should serve Frosted well as he moves up the class ladder for Godolphin Stable. Several stamina influences are in the first 3 generations including: A.P. Indy, Unbridled, Pulpit, Deputy Minister. Roberto and Seattle Slew are both in the 4th generation.
Up Next:
Frosted has been nominated for several stakes races. Look for him to stay east and run in the Remsen with that long stride and familiarity with the New York surface.
In the winter Frosted may show up at Gulfstream Park and compete with the top horses at Gulfstream. Possibly returning in the spring to run in the Wood Memorial.
