The Penn Mile has brought together a strong edition of Turf horses at the sharp distance of one mile. The distance should make this a great equalizer and expect a tight finish with any one of three or four horses capable of winning.
Global View earned a hard-fought win on Derby day at Churchill Downs. He rallied from off the pace that day – showing his class and love of the lawn after a disappointing effort in the Rained-to the Poly Transylvania Stakes. Turf record is 3 for 4 and looms large with Gary Stevens.
Laddie Boy has some efforts that may have him in a contenting position. Has shown speed at times and may be sitting in a top four position as they turn for home. Looks a little challenged late to fire his best shot. But capable of upsetting if everything goes his way.
Bobby’s Kitten was rank in the Bluegrass and has natural speed to take these guys a long way on the lawn. Castellano sticks with him and now that the Derby is passed they may just send him and see what they have. Natural speed puts him on the pace and if he doesn’t run off or is rank will be tough to catch down the lane.
Storming Inti packs his lunch pail every race and enters with 6 starts on the turf and 3 wins. Brings speed to the party and with Alan Garcia in the saddle look for him to be close to the pace early, possibly tucked in behind Bobby’s Kitten at the half mile pole. Needs to get closer to the rail by the half mile pole.
Divine Oath is lightly raced and last race in the Lexington was a nice effort to the talented Mr. Speaker. Looks like one of 2 closers and the pace should be fast and furious up front. Punchers chance at 6/1.
Pace: Pace should be fast. Bobby’s Kitten, Laddie Boy and Storming Inti are all capable of taking the lead. Look for Bobby’s Kitten to ultimately prevail by the 6 furlong mark. Bobby can handle fast fractions – just not a contested pace.
The Choice:
Global View has been fresh and consistent his whole career. Can stay closer to the pace if they slow it up front. Expecting a big effort and top 3 finish for the son of Gailileo. Who should loom large down the stretch.
