Beautiful Belmont Park is home of the 7 furlong turf Paradise Creek Stakes. Small field entered with a few entered as Main Track Only.
The Skinny:
Enjoy the Show picked up a fast win last December. Solid turf trainer and enters off the layoff with a string of works. May need longer. One win in 2 starts on the turf. Minor contender for the win end.
Nonna’s Boy is entered as Main Track only. Does have some turf breeding and ran into a bear last race in El Deal. If race goes to the main track he is the selection.
Alex the Terror looks slower on paper than most of these. Lone turf race was a 16 length loss at Tampa Bay this winter. Last race was on a sloppy surface. Minor awards possible in this race.
Croninthebarbarian is the class of the field with 3 G3 races on his resume. Seven starts on the turf he has won $172K in earnings and is 5 for 7 in the money on the turf. Top turf trainer and jockey Javier Castellano is at the top of his game now. Major contender and will be closing late.
St. Louie picked up a maiden win in last race. Wheels right back in a couple of weeks. Looks slower on paper but the Arch pedigree screams turf and is sharp. Still capable of improving and expect a solid effort.
Whateveryouwant enters as a Main Track Only 6 furlong specialist. Not sure he wants to route but likes being the lone speed and has feasted over some small fields. Won’t run if race stays on turf.
Bridget’s Big Luvy set wicked fractions and faded in Arkansas. Has done his best running coming from behind and closing running style. Current form is suspect and slower than the top contenders. Longshot.
A Lot enters with some class and ran a big race on the Kentucky Derby Undercard in the American Turf which came up strong. Running style is off the pace and Bill Mott trained the horse that his race is name after Paradise Creek. Looms large on the turn and consistent speed and cutback should be tough.
The Choice:
A Lot is the choice in this race to get the jump on Croninthebarbarian. Should like the cutback and enters fresh and with a strong race 2 weeks back. Should sit just off the speed but has enough speed to take the lead if the pace is slow.
