A dominating win by Vicar’s In Trouble in the Lecomte validated the high speed figure and visually impressive win in his last race. In his maiden breaker he drew off by the length of the stretch. The Lecomte pace scenario played out as expected. Vicar’s In Trouble sat off slow pace of 1:13 and change which was slower than the fillies on the undercard.
Vicar’s In Trouble inherited the lead on the turn, and quickly opened up on the field and finished comfortable, the gallop out was average but he was geared down so early it was hard to judge the gallop out. Albano chased pretty much throughout the race and stretched out with a nice effort, but may not have much more room for improvement.
Gold Hawk who came in with slow speed figures but had been visually impressive went off as favorite, he showed speed to stay with the field, but lacked the punch that he had shown in last two races coming from behind. Gold Hawk should improve off the effort and today he showed he can lay close to the pace, but not fire the closing kick.
Vicar’s In Trouble, Albano and Gold Hawk move on the trail, the rest were exposed and will fill out minor awards as the races get tougher.
More than likely Vicar’s In Trouble may pass the Risen Star and wait for the Louisiana Derby, expect Gold Hawk and Albano back in the Risen Star. Into Mischief is becoming a sire that stamps a November – January cycle into a peak period with 3 stakes winners in January the last 2 years with Goldencents, Vyjack last year and now Vicar’s In Trouble.
