Anticipation builds as we get closer to Breeders Cup Friday and Saturday, 10 of the 13 races have been highlighted in individual selections. For those of you who want the quick cheat sheet.
Friday:
Juvenile Turf: Atkbany was original selection is now scratched. Qualify goes to the head of the pack now. Luck of the Kitten and Imperia are now the choices
Dirt Mile: Carve is the selection – Goldencents will be tough
Filly Juvenile Turf: No real opinion – going with the obvious Lady Eli and Conquest Harlante
Distaff: Don’t Tell Sophia is my top selection. But really like the way L’Amour de Ma Vie is training and like the pedigree and running style. She has some class and with inside post should sit a good trip. Stanwyck and Close Hatches I’m using in Doubles.
Saturday:
Juv Filllies: Feathered is the top choice, think she shows speed in this race. Top Decile should be forwardly placed as well.
Fillly & Mare Turf: Fiesolana has a shot at a nice price and Secret Gesture are the two I’m leaning heavily on.
Filly Sprint – Better Lucky should be able to close into a fast pace. Stonetastic always tough sprinting.
Turf Sprint – Reneesgotzip is one of my favorites – she has the inside and should be on a send job.
Juvenile – Carpe Diem and Upstart should benefit from the scratch of American Pharoah.
Turf – Telescope is the best bet of the weekend – Flintshire and Black Panther are the only others I’m using.
Sprint – wide open – Palace has a shot and Bakken may like the cut back and the outside post.
Mile: Mustajeeb should like the distance, Anodin is possible with outside trip.
Classic: Expecting a pace meltdown – Chrome, Bayern and Cigar Street set ambitous fractions. Zivo and Tonalist try to pick up the pieces.
Workouts:
The coverage has been intense this year at Santa Anita on workouts and several video’s have provided an up close look at several horses. Workouts are like a future wide – Beauty is not the deciding factor in who you marry – but it plays a part!
Rich Tapestry – has trained huge – price will drop and he will be favored – this horse looks good and I expect to run a solid race.
Carpe Diem shipped nice and his coat looks shiny and bright. Calm demeanor -ultra talented.
Goldencents continues to train like a monster. This guy is ripped and never has a bad race, unless someone really goes out to beat him – he will be tough.
California Chrome – looks muscled – but still does not look like a distance horse, short strides and built like a sprinter.
Shared Belief – it is what it is – still find it strange no work over the surface of any kind – just a gallop scheduled for Thursday.
