A competitive betting race in the El Camino Real. Enterprising was bet down from morning line of 5/2 to finish the as the favorite. The odds drifted up on I’ll Wrap It Up 30/1 and Puppy Manners 18/1.
The post parade was a clear look at the horses. Dance With Fate impressed with a bowed head and really looked on the muscle. Tamrando received a nice warm up and had the shadow roll on with ears forward. Puppy Manners looks goofy with the wrapped ears, but warmed up nice.
The start was uneventful with I’ll Wrap it Up taking the lead with 24 and 2 for the quarter and 50 for the half, 6 furlongs was moderate 1:14. I’ll Wrap It Up gave up on the turn. Enterprising was forced to move into a slow pace and made his move too soon. Dance With Fate was four wide down the backstretch and three wide for the first 6 furlongs, took the lead entering the stretch and made his run to the wire with Tamarando wearing him down late in the race in the final strides.
Tamarando sat a winning trip, lagging behind with slow fractions the field bunched up on the turn with Tamarando waiting until stretch to wind up and go. This is a deep closing style which is hard to time multiple wins. The final time was a slow 1:51 and 1/5 with the track favorable to closers.
Looking ahead Tamarando is a horse with distance limitations and pace limitations in a truly run race on the dirt, he will always struggle getting into position. Most of Tamrando’s moves are running extremely wide and on a dirt track in full field making his move down the lane that move will not re rewarded often.
This was a poly/synthetic race and slow fractions. Look for Dance With Fate to run in the Bluegrass where he will have a shot with his running style and fondness for synthetic. Tamarando probably on to the Santa Anita Derby as his prep for the Kentucky Derby.
Realistically none of these horses will win at 10 furlongs the first Saturday in May.
