Some final thoughts on the Belmont Stakes and the Undercard.
Caleidoscopio’s win while exciting too watch, was a perfect example on a “Muddy” track win. Laying far back and just splashing along, all the chasers were done by the turn, Percussion kept on plugging along and the 10 year old ran him down. Very surprising 7/1 on the veteran who was the 5/2 morning line favorite.
In the Brooklyn/Manhatten Doubles. Orb is the overwhelming favorite and really offering no value, a 7/1 with a 3/1 should pay about $42 for $2 but Orb figures to go off about 8/5 in the win wagering.
I fully expect a drying out track which is different than the Sloppy Track early in the day Friday and Muddy track late in the day. Orb can win one way Do just what Caleidoscopio did – lay back and make one run. Orb has one run and one gear, laying close the pace is not his style. Especially after two demanding Triple Crown Races.
Freedom Child is still the horse with the most upside. Comparing splits on the November 24th card. Freedom Child ran faster than both the Demoiselle and Remsen winners, especially for the first quarter and the half. His Gulfstream Park race Maiden win and his Peter Pan win was enhanced by the Slop. This is still a horse on the improve and at 9 furlongs would be my obvious choice. The 12 furlongs is always the test of champions and contested pace still are the question marks.
Expect Overanalyze to also lay back and make one strong run going into the turn. This style has been a winner in his two most dominant starts.
Revolutionary also figures to benefit from a drying out, demanding track.
Better Lucky at 12/1 has a shot in the Just a Game.
Eton Blue is worth a look in the Easy Goer along with Doherty.
Let Em Shine is s bet against in the Woody Stephens.
