Some improving 3 year olds have entered the Lexington Stakes for 2015. Divining Rod enters as the most accomplished runner in the group with impressive maiden winners Donworth and Fame and Power moving up in class.
The Skinny:
Divining Rod showed speed in last 2 races when facing Carpe Diem and Ocean Knight. Inside post and class could put him on the lead. Overall not sure he can improve but a repeat of the last 2 races puts him in the mix in this spot. Formidable and a low price.
Comfort has the trainer switch and gets Javier Castellano. Giant number in last race and was privately purchased after big win at Fairgrounds. Has enough speed to lay close and can come off the pace. Consistent performer is in the mix.
Quimet was overmatched in the Florida Derby. Ran 2nd 3 races back and “shortens” up off back to back 9 furlong races. Overall not sure he has the right mix of speed and stamina. Tossing.
Tiznow R J has regressed in last 2 starts and not sure if he is ready to wake up in this spot Did have 2 good Churchill Downs races last fall so Kentucky may be the rebound race.
Henry Jones is very slow and is several lengths slower than many of the serious contenders.
Fame and Power impressed with a keen turn of foot in last race at 7 furlongs and may have improved with the 3 month layoff. Good foundation and Juddmonte Farms is the owner and they point for this meet. Shipping in and very live in this spot.
Donworth is a very large horse. Long legs, built like a router and all kinds of trouble in the debut race. Moving up in class and distance, but Rosario stays aboard. Big things could be in store. Likely underlay but have to respect.
Fair Odds:
Donworth 3/1
Fame and Power 4/1
The Choice:
Donworth was impressive visually and has enough speed to be close to the lead as they turn for home. Physical imposing horse should like the distance and improve in 2nd career start. Exactas Donworth over Fame and Power and Divining Rod.
