Bronze Star flashed potential in his first two races, but his maiden breaker at Santa Anita indicated stakes races may be in his future.
Bronze Star started his career bet down to the favorite in a MSW race at Los Alamitos in September. Bronze Star was spooked in the post parade and ran off a little bit. He ran evenly for 4th that day. Being a son of Tapit, having “spookiness” is not uncommon.
Breaking inward and slamming into the horse next to him, “Star” straightened course down the backside. Rushed up with his natural speed while running 3 wide. Came into the stretch and “weaved” to the inside and then went back outside. He was tagged for 3rd at the wire, but galloped out best of all at the rail.
Start number 2 was a “loaded” MSW at Santa Anita with several horses coming out of live Maiden races. Punctuate closed from 10th place and won that race. Bronze Star had an outside post and made the lead down the stretch but was passed late by Punctuate. Bronze Star galloped out evenly with stable-mate Madiba.
Stretching out after 2 sprints – Bronze Star went to the lead and never looked back, the fractions were moderate and he received minimal pressure, opening up a 2 length lead entering the stretch. Many horses will improve in 3rd lifetime start and Bronze Star did not disappoint.
Bronze Star has shown the ability to rate, run wide and in his route victory his positional speed took him to the lead. A strong gallop out and body style that has some filling out to do suggests, long-term route races is going to be his game.
Purchased for 500K and a February foal, the mare Dashing Debby was a Stakes Winner, winning a minor stakes in her career debut by 10 lengths. She later ran in the Matron Stakes.

Bronze Star has recorded a workout since the maiden win and is nominated to the Bing Crosby Stakes at the Delmar meet – which replaces the Hollywood Prevue. With 2 sprints and 1 route he has a good foundation to build upon. He is also nominated to the Delta Jackpot which would be a great spot to go for a Cash Grab and perfect distance.
The pedigree is a tad on the “injury-prone” side, so possibly Bing Crosby Stakes and Los Al Cashcall Futurity to close out the year. That would give him 4 or possibly 5 races and a good development pattern to improve in 2015.
The pedigree profile on Pedigree Query.com show a mixture of speed and early developing in his pedigree.
